Intent, Implementation and Impact

The intent is that all children will be taught to develop their techniques, including control and use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increased awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design.

To implement this they will use a wide range of materials creatively to design and make a multitude of products and use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.

They will develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space and also learn about at range of great artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and make links to their own work.

All children from Year 1 on-wards at St Anne’s will create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas.

At St Anne’s we strive to teach art and design that will excite, enthuse and grow our children creatively with passion.

In addition to the units being taught each Year Group will complete a piece of writing inspired by Art.

Key Stage 2 children will also complete a written study based on a famous artist.

The impact of all of this is that the profile of Art will rightly be one of value across all of the school and the children will have opportunities to explore and experience using a wide range of medium, therefore the impact will be that the children will have a full and rounded understanding of Art and will be able to comment on a piece of art and the artist. Due to visits to galleries, museums and as a result of artist visits the children will have an appreciation of what it means to pursue a career in art. They will understand that there are a wide variety of careers where art will be useful.
